Submit!

Submit your bicycle movie to The Ninth Annual Bicycle Film Festival!

The Bicycle Film Festival is a 16 city, world wide celebration of bicycles through film, art and music.

This is a call for submissions to all creative people – MAKE A BIKE MOVIE!!! (Or finish the one you’re working on!!!)

Submissions DEADLINE EXTENDED TO MARCH 7, 2009.

Check out the website (www.bicyclefilmfestival.com) where you can look over past programs and watch the trailers to see what they have screened in the past.

Films shorter than 10 minutes are easier to program for the shorts programs.

But they will screen a really good movie no matter how long it is.

LA has contributed some incredible films in the past and we’d love to see some good LA films get screened worldwide again!

GoldSprints + Toy Ride = Bike Love

Fri night was awesome! We raised some buck$ for Wormser and gave toys to the kiddies! Here’s a couple photo’s and a video (starring our very own Killa’) from the GoldSprints at the new shop.

Cranksgiving Season Is Here Again!

Possibly the best annual alley cat race LA has to offer, the Cranksgiving charity race has raised money and donated food to Para Los Ninos every Thanksgiving season for the last EIGHT years!

Cranksgiving was originally conceived and promoted by NYC bike messenger Tone Rodrigues as a way for the New York Bike Messenger Association to give back to people less fortunate than themselves over 10 years ago.  In 2001, a couple of LA messengers went to Budapest, Hungary for the Cycle Messenger World Championships (CMWC’s).  They met Tone there, heard about the race, and decided to organize their own Cranksgiving race in down town LA that year.

Cranksgiving is now held in cities around the world, contributing Thanksgiving food donations to various charities and causes just in time for Thanksgiving.  So bring your bag and $10 to the lighthouse at Echo Park Lake on Nov. 26th.  Race for this great cause and be a part of the Cranksgiving spirit!!

Ines Brunn rocks Los Angeles at the BFF 2008!!

We closed down the block this past weekend as we hosted the Bicycle Film Festival block party for the second year in a row!  Hundreds of people showed up despite the oppressively hot weather.

There were DJ’s, Burrito’s, BMX and fixed gear competitions all day long.

The highlight of the day was the special performance by legendary artistic cyclist Ines Brunn.  If you think pedaling bar spin wheelies on a track bike is impressive check this out. Ines performed her world famous Kunst Rad Show and upped the fixed gear ante by pulling circular backwards seated pedaling death truck maneuvers over the rough and uneven road in front of our shop.

Ines also let us tool around on her trick bike, and later we had a private session with some of the local LA flatlanders. Much Respect Ines!

Ines was also riding a new pink Cinelli track bike laced with silver Level hubs and platform pedals. We had a chance to ride around some and it was a suprise to me that this was a new cycling genre to Ines. We hooked her up with some custom painted pink GR-9s with clips and straps before turning her loose on the streets of San Francisco.
