Louis Vuitton – Messenger Style…WHAT!?

There have been attempts to characterize messenger gear and clothing as a certain type of ‘fashion’ (check out this sample from ‘Messengers Style‘ – a book focusing on some NYC messengers). But, a messenger’s clothes usually represent an odd combination of function, form, and expense – usually the less expensive, the better. This article represents the first time that I’ve seen messenger “clothing” reproduced by ‘high-fashion designers’. If you get a piece of the Louis Vuitton spring 2010 collection, let us know what you think.

Plus, screw them reporters:  I don’t know who they’re using, but most of our local messengers aren’t meth-heads – they’re just skinny ‘cuz they ride all day!  Jerks!

Los Angeles Bicycle Coalition and YOU!

If you haven’t heard, the Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition (LACBC) is working hard to advance cyclists’ causes in Los Angeles – including working with the city to improve the cycling infrastructure and starting rides that help create and spread a sense of community. Here at Orange 20, we’re trying to help. If you’ve been thinking of joining the LACBC, now is a great time to sign up online (here), or just come on by the shop – we can help you get signed up! The LACBC will keep you updated on the upcoming city actions, cycling events, and some local rides through their e-mail updates and newsletters. So stand up and be counted, show your support for the local coalition that fights for cyclists’ rights!

  1. This piece of work actually disturbs me…I really don’t want to see our culture distorted by desperate dinasaurs trying to keep there edge. We have our own sense of style from the punk riders, to the hipster coffee house kids, to the street rebels, and the straight grundgy messengers. I can see were high en might take this and it scares me. Keep original, and if the close weren’t thrift or made by a fellow rider, just leave this department alone.

July’s Coaster Brake Challenge Recap…sorta

Well, Paul from Atomic Cycles has done it again! In addition, to the Choppercabras’ yearly offerings and the soap-box series, he’s managed to put together another semi-annual, classic, cycling event (though this one is actually a race series). The Coaster Brake Challenge is a series of mountain bike races in January and July that tests riders’ skill on coaster brake bikes – no gears, no hand brakes; it’s all about the right gearing and handling skills. They are RAD! (BIKE magazine also did a write-up here.) Don’t miss the next series in January – you’ll be sorry!

I think Dingo was the official winner of this series.  Congrats!  This is a shot of Christian and Dingo leading the pack out of the canyon.
