(A noticeable point in the article: of the 3 times that the author - a NYC cyclist – was involved in traffic incidents, the most physical damage he incurred came from a Ford van as he was walking across the street…) One of the most interesting ideas from this particular piece is the presentation of the theory that a cyclist’s image defines their style of riding. (This is done in an articulate and subtle way, but it does point out the exaggerated amount of stereotyping and prejudice in the media – even among fellow bikers!) Will acting like saints justify our existence? YES, we have duties and obligations as cyclists and as active members in traffic: NO, you are not a bad person if you choose not to obey the rules of the road; HOWEVER, when you risk your life, and especially if you endanger other people, you need to take full responsibility for your actions – no matter what style of clothes you wear, bike you ride, or hairdo you’re trying to rock. ”Period, Dot.” If you missed the link above, you can read the article HERE… Posted by: jimc @ 8:29 am Permalink | 0 Comments Got something to say? »Messenger, Messenger, keepin’ the groove!
