Holly Dazed…

Well, we made it through Christmas – next up, a way understaffed week before the New Year! Hooray! T.J. will be manning the shop for the next few days (along with his lovely mother, Bonnie – also our accountant/inventory tracker/mediator/motivator/badass), so we won’t be knocking out any major repairs until the beginning of January. Also, we will have limited hours on and around the first of January. We will be closed New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. (How’s that for limited…) As always, it’s a good idea to call before coming – 323.662.4537.

I hope everyone’s having a fulfilling holiday season, and we wish you all safe travels and godspeed – now and throughout the coming year. Here’s a photo of TJ decorating a wall for the season. (The continuing post has a couple photos from the Messenger Race at the Encino Velodrome a few weeks ago courtesy of the amazing Dennis Rodriguez.) Word.

CLOSED SUNDAY!!!

That’s right, this Sunday, December 9th, we’ll be closed in order to attend a couple of events.
On Saturday (rain date Sunday the 9th), T.J. will be out riding flat at the Long Beach Jam, and on Sunday Jim will be working a booth at the swap meet and racing (well, trying not to get beat too bad) at the Encino Velodrome. This is an open invite to everyone to come out and enjoy a day of cycling.
The Long Beach Jam is an excellent opportunity to see some of the most talented flatland riders in the country: ninjas, except they defy gravity on 20″ bikes in order to amaze and progress the sport, not kick your ass! And the Winter Challenge at the Encino Velodrome will showcase the riding abilities of some of the fastest track racers in the nation competing for a $10,000 purse – in addition to the swap meet and messenger race! So, if you’re in the area, come on out and show some support at one of these events. You’ll have a blast!

A NEW Bike…

About a month ago, we got in some ‘jazz-blue’ track-specific and ‘wineberry’ street/fixed frames from Waterford. These frames are selling for $600 with a black fork: the frames are tig-welded beauties, made in the states, done specifically for our shop. We finally got around to building one – for me…it’s so rad! Here’s a few photos to drool over. If you’re interested, get in touch with us, and we can set you up with one of your very own.

More photos in the main entry…

Some of the bikes and frames we have hanging around…

Here’s a shot of a 53c s-t/54c t-t Bridgestone that we built a few weeks ago with some parts we had at the shop. (Note: We’ve still got a bunch of the colored groups by Sugino/MKS/Nitto in a variety of sizes and colors, too.) The Bridgestone is a used Keirin frame, fork, and bottom bracket; however, all its other parts are new, and it looks stunning…definitely a show-stopper.

We’ve got some more photos of it and a couple other frames in the post – along with their prices and info.

  1. If only I had a couple of G’s for that Bridgestone. I think I might have to go rob a bank or something.

A Velodrome race for all you ‘messengers’…

Finally, what you’ve all been waiting for…a chance to see who’s fastest. No lights, no traffic, no cops, and you only have to turn in one direction: bring your bag, your bike, a helmet, $20, and a paper to the Encino Velodrome this coming Sunday, December 9th – the same day and location as the Swap Meet. Also at the event, a pro race complete with a $10,000 purse. Live music, crappy food; what else could you ask for?
