FINALLY – the scanner works.

This little piece is from a French magazine that came out this summer, ‘Spray’. I don’t know anything about the magazine: it appears to be some sort of fashion rag. They sent out a few reporters to LA to follow around some of the messengers (there’s a good photo of NY Joe) and investigate the new culture of ‘fixed-gear riders’. They’ve got a shot of the shop (TJ’s in it), a picture of our buddy – Seu, a photo from the first downtown crit, and a bunch of quotes from me – Jim C. I had it translated, and they did a pretty good job.

Some Level wheels

Last year we built up a set of purple LEVEL hubs for the overall winner of New York City’s Goldsprints. In case you don’t know, LEVEL hubs are AMAZING! They don’t use a traditional cog and lockring, instead their cog slides into place and bolts onto the hub. Easy to use, easy to change, impossible to strip; LEVEL Components makes smart track hubs. Here’s a photo of the wheels we built for Luke Stiles – the overall winner in NYC. We built a 36-hole, 3 cross rear and a 32-hole, 3 cross front. (If you click on the photo, you’ll get a close-up of the wheels, and it’s easy to see how the rear cog assembly differs from standard track hubs.)

Unfortunately, Luke was doored recently. We wish you a speedy recovery, Luke. Click below for the story and testimonial.

  1. I got doored by someone in the slow lane who thought a slowly clearing intersection was a car accident.

she didnt’ mean to and she was nice, so… whatever she’s just dumb.

But if someone did it on purpose,… fuck you i’m clocking them with my u-lock, at least breaking some windows

  2. Dude I hit a Cadillac Escalate or what ever it is called doing a good 10 MPH because some ass hole cab driver wanted to play games with me and close my line up between him and the SUV, Lucky me walked away with a bruised chest plate a cracked AERO SPOKE busted tire and a bent fork-
The worse part of it all is that The SUV was at a red light completely stopped.. So the impact was like hitting a brick wall in the middle of Broad way and Housten… NYC baby I could feel the city breathing- Peace Foster

Los Angeles’ 7th Annual CRANKSGIVING!!!

Wednesday, November 21st, 2007 – come on down and rustle up some canned goods for charity. It’ll sure make you feel good! This race is a classic, almost like those Spring races in Europe – a really fun grocery-raid/charity race that is guaranteed to make you feel like a Thanksgiving rock star, even though you only spent $10!

Thanks to the LABMC for all their hard work. See you there…

COG Magazine

It’s finally out, and we’ve got a few copies. You can check ‘em out at http://www.cogmag.com/index.html. First come, first served, but you have to mention that you saw it online…we’ve only got a limited number. (They would all be gone in a couple of days if we just gave them away willy-nilly.)

It’s a fairly classy rag. It definitely has a bent for messenger-related events. (Hopefully, they won’t strip away all the mystique that shrouds courier culture.) It is nice to see some folks finally getting recognition – good people doing solid work, like Corn Dog in Seattle. They say it’ll be coming out quarterly; I wish them the best.

BROOKLYNs in the house…

Here’s a shot of a bike using one of the newest framesets we’ve got here. The new Brooklyn Machine Works’ Gangsta Track framesets are starting to arrive, and these bikes look tough! (We’re actually building one to put to the test, but BMW claims they’re unbreakable.)

Just click below for more flicks courtesy of Iron Megan.

  2. How much are these? I thought they were exclusive.

  3. These frame and fork combos are currently selling for $775.00. BMW does have a few dealers in the states…not many, though. We consider ourselves to be pretty lucky to carry these quality, NYC-made, burly framesets!

  4. yeah, and if you do buy a frame from them just so you know its an integrated headset so you dont need the lower part of the headset piece…

My FOX LA’s hot list…

…we’re on it, but we need some help! (We really just wanna see what happens if we win.) It’s easy, go to http://myfoxla.cityvoter.com/details.aspx?business=25729 and click on vote. Just remember to delete the checks in the boxes that cause you to get their random junk e-mail updates.

Word.
