Top Tube Pads

Well, Bici Concepts has been using the 20 as a testing ground for their pads since the company’s inception. Bici makes reversible top tube pads and shirts, and now they’re making tube protectors for us…25 bucks a piece. Check the photo – my favorite is the black-on-black screen-print. All of these are the ever-popular black on the reverse. Word. Thanks, Shiloh – check him out:

About the California Brew Tour

The California Brew Tour – how can I do it justice? When you base a ride on a New Belgium sponsorship, the promise of brewery pit-stops, and epic racing, then you can expect a rowdy bunch of messengers to deliver a few shenanigans and some blazing performances up California’s golden coast. The Brew Tour was 5 days of riding mixed with a whole lotta drinking. You know fun’s brewing when we drank the 7:30 AM train out of Arrogant Bastard and Stone IPA before the 3 1/2 hour trip to San Luis Obispo was over! (Chalk up some amazing contortionism to San Diego’s Noah – he crawled into the overhead luggage rack – and thanks to the NY crew for waking the party up…somehow, we managed to avoid getting kicked off the train.) The riding was epic!!! Melissa, Doug, and Ozzie did an incredible job with support – we had beer at every stop, and I mean every stop. It wasn’t crap beer either – cases of cold Fat Tire, Skinny Dip, and 1554 kept us fully inebriated and motivated. And the company, well it was a first-rate crew. New Yorkers Izumi and Prestin, Australians Legsy and Makatron, DC’s Max, Boston’s Craig and Jacob, and San Diego’s Noah joined a few Angeleno’s (Thaddeus the steady, Bruce the elder, Dale the boisterous, Jimmy Lizama the indefatiguable, and me – Jim C). The first few days had some incredible moments – headwinds from hell, some lucky tailwinds, brutalful climbs and descents through Big Sur, a 6-mile “one-mile hike” to a rock in Morro Bay, and a 106 mile day ending in a pub-crawl around Santa Cruz. There were also some not-so-memorable moments – Izumi crawled out of his bike bag the first night to make sure I peed outside the tent…thanks for helping me to narrowly avoid complete disaster! We left Santa Cruz after a morning session of Bocci ball (and a few pints for good measure), and we got escorted up the coast to the lunch checkpoint by a couple of our new friends. 2 days later, and several wrong turns for me, we arrived at Golden Gate Park. I honestly remember hearing, “OK, only one more climb to go” for 3 days straight – it was always a lie, and each hill seemed to be worse than the last one! Noah, Izumi, and Prestin set unbelievably fast paces on board their track bikes – usually smoking all the geared riders, too! If you ever get the chance, ride California’s coast: the camping is superb, the views are stunning, and the beer is fantastic!

20 has the Bianchi…

Alright, as of last week, the 20 is now an official Bianchi dealer. Currently, we have a couple complete Pista Concepts – 51 celeste and 55 white, a few Pistas in chrome and green, a pair of orange Castro Valleys, some Rogers (great looking bikes for the singlespeed cross crew), a matching men’s and women’s Milano – the cafe racers, some of the extremely versatile Volpes, a few sizes of the San Jose, some comfort bikes (the Bergamo, a ladies’ Bay City and a ladies’ Boardwalk), and even a couple Fremonts… I think we’ve got the road singlespeeders and commuters covered. We’ve only had time to build a few of the beauties, so let us know if there’s something you want to see, or ride, that’s not on the floor… word.
